Couturier Jon Moore will be returning to The Academy of fine Sewing & Design to teach another
Couture workshop. This year we will focus on techniques of working on the bias.
Jon Moore has an established Couture business in London, England making couture clothes for
private clients from his modern studio just outside of central London, www.jonmoore.com
Jon originally studied Fashion Design at Kingston University in London and graduated as most
promising final year student. After graduation he joined the Design Studio at Royal Couturier
Hardy Amies. He held the positions of Studio Assistant, Women’s Wear Designer and Couture
Director. Ultimately he was appointed Design Director and held the role for five years.
During his career, Jon has had the privilege of working with and learning from some of the most
extraordinary and talented couture fitters, seamstresses, tailors and clients. It is these traditional
couture skills that he is passionate about preserving and exploring, combining them with sharp
modern design in a contemporary style to create couture clothes for the modern woman.
During this five day workshop, students will have the unique opportunity to study with a master.
Participants will hone their hand skills while learning couture techniques for working on the bias.
The accompanying booklet, complete with colour photos will be a valuable resource students
can refer to for future projects.
We will begin the workshop with a reception Sunday evening from 6-7:30 pm where you will
have the opportunity to meet and greet Jon and the other students. Classes will run from 9am
to 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
Jon has designed and draped the pattern for this bias cut dress. The garment can be worn as a
dress or it can be shortened and worn as a tunic with pants. The wool crepe for the project is
available in a broad range of colours, which students can choose from. This special cloth will be
ordered from a fabric design house in London. The dress will be backed with silk georgette and
lined with silk charmeuse.
Each student will have the opportunity to try on a muslin toile before receiving their own copy of
the cloth pattern. The pattern will be graded into a full range of sizes.
This year students will work with a couture cloth pattern rather than a paper pattern.
Tuition includes ALL supplies required to make the project. Included in the cost of the

diet you may wish to supply your own food.
We anticipate that this workshop will sell out quickly. Although, Jon will be coming to Canada for
two weeks, we will only offer one session of the Bias Dress May 7-11, 2018. During the first
week of May we will offer the Body Double workshop.
