I love making leather handbags! They can be customized to fit your lifestyle but don't have to fit a body.
Here is my take on a very famous unlined leather tote bag which retails for $1500 and up. I drafted my own pattern and purchased the hardware and zippers in New York. The beautiful purple suede goatskin came from Perfect Leather in Toronto. Inside I added a zippered pocket, cell phone pocket, business card pocket and key clip. There is a zippered pocket on the outside. The bottom of the bag is supported with a hard bag bottom, which I covered in matching leather. Feet on the bottom of the bag protect it from getting dirty when I set it down.
An Open Workshop is the perfect opportunity to design your own unique handbag out of leather, fabric or a combination of both. You will learn how to draft a pattern and sew with leather.
The Sewing Leather CD includes a copy of my Master Workshop article for Vogue on Handbags.
This handbag has garnered many compliments during my travels to Toronto and New York. One of the best compliments came from an owner of three designer handbags who wondered where I found a purple version!
